Attending my first AKAGN with Captain Eddie’s Flying Circus, at the 1996 AKA Grand Nationals in Santa Monica, CA.
A hotly contested class, Masters Team Ballet drew top competitors from all over the US and even some from Japan (caused a protest and DQ – long story), one of the last big team “rumbles in the jungle” seen on North American soil.
RIP Mike Gillard, miss you bro – I have’t forgotten “it’s just kites, man“.
